About Us
Welcome to the University of Alberta Debate Society! Established in 1908, we are the oldest club on campus. Whether you want to make new friends, gain confidence in your public speaking skills, or compete at high-level tournaments, UADS is for everyone -- no debate experience or minimum time commitment required!
-
At 5pm, our meetings start with a seminar from one of our two VP trainings, where you learn something about how to debate well! This is usually 45 minutes long.
Then, we have a practice round! You can debate, judge, or spectate.
-
The answer is⦠everything!
We do everything from politics, philosophy, international relations, economics, technology, relationships, and more! We occasionally like to do silly motions as well :)
You do not need to have any specified knowledge about any specific topic to debate!
-
Good news: attending UADS meetings is free!
However, to attend tournaments/vote in elections, a 15 dollar membership fee is applied.
Tournaments are oftentimes subsidized by the club (travel/accommodations/reg fees), but some payment is usually required.
